From Managing Passes to Managing Destinations: Why EB 2.0 is a Game Changer

In our last post, we pulled back the curtain on Experience Builder (EB) 2.0, signaling a new era for Bandwango. But what does "a new era" actually look like for the people in the driver’s seat? To find out, we sat down with Leena Riggs, our Sales Director—who, interestingly enough, was a Bandwango client long before she joined our team—and looked back at a recent webinar featuring our CEO, Mo Parikh. The consensus? EB 2.0 isn't just a software update. It’s a total reimagining of how a destination interacts with its visitors and its own data.

Breaking the "Bottleneck"

For many DMOs, the biggest barrier to innovation hasn't been a lack of ideas—it’s been a lack of time. Leena remembers this struggle well from her days as a client.

"The biggest bottleneck of the old system was the number of hands on a project to get it live," Leena explains. "From internal meetings to meetings with Bandwango and back around again, it very quickly became a long process. EB 2.0 changes that math. By moving to a self-serve model, we’ve removed the layers of friction."

In his recent webinar, Mo Parikh echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the goal of EB 2.0 was to provide autonomy. He noted that in the past, Bandwango was often a "managed service" that could feel like a black box. With EB 2.0, Mo shared his vision for a platform where:

"Our partners have the same tools at their fingertips that our internal team does. We want to empower you to launch, iterate, and grow at the speed of your own creativity, not at the speed of our support queue."

Unlimited Creativity: If You Can Blog It, You Can Pass It

One of the most restrictive aspects of the previous era was the "cap" on experiences. Many clients were forced to choose between a single evergreen pass or an expensive, one-off seasonal campaign.

EB 2.0 shatters those limits.

"The ability to run unlimited passes and event tickets means Bandwango can now be applied to every pillar of a destination's marketing plan," says Leena. "I like to tell prospective clients: if you can talk about it on social media or in a blog, you can turn it into a pass. Bandwango is that vital link between being a well-marketed information source and being an active destination manager."

Democratizing Technology for DMOs

We know that DMOs—often operating as non-profits or government entities—are incredibly sensitive to "lift." They don’t always have the budget to hire a full-time "App Manager."

EB 2.0 was designed with "Centralized Settings" to make the technical side of things disappear.

"Anything that democratizes the platform and makes it more accessible is vital," Leena notes. "The simpler the technical build—hello, copy/edit/post campaigns!—the more time the team has to be creative and engage with their partners and visitors offline. And isn't getting people offline the whole point?"

The New Frontier: Storytelling Through Media

The evolution of the Itinerary Pass and expanded media capabilities are perhaps the most exciting "undiscovered" territories of EB 2.0. Leena sees a future where these tools aren't just for tourists, but for community building and influencer relations.

  • Self-Guided Tours with a Mission: "Why not build a self-guided tour and dedicate the income to a charity partner? If the tour is about local wildlife, partner with trail guides for the content and strengthen those ties through financial support generated by the pass."
  • Influencer & FAM Trips: "Think about how media in passes can be used to streamline FAM (Familiarization) trips and influencer engagements. The possibilities are truly endless."

The Bottom Line

As Mo Parikh summarized in the webinar, the "2.0" in Experience Builder stands for more than just a version number. It stands for a shift from transactions to transformations.

By putting the power of "unlimited" back into the hands of the destination, Bandwango is no longer just a tool you use once a year for a "Sip and Savor" trail. It is the engine that allows you to take all of your content and put it into action.
